綜合描述

端褐蠶蛾 / 野蠶蛾(Bombyx mandarina formosana) 是蠶蛾科(Bombycidae)。本種的前翅為黃褐色底，翅端鉤狀且為黑色，亞外緣有一條白線自前緣向下沿伸至約2/3處和一條黑褐色線自前緣沿伸至後緣，外線有一條黑褐色筆直線由前緣沿伸至後緣，中室頂端有一個黑褐色橢圓斑，距翅基 1/3處還有一塊黑褐色帶；後翅為黑褐色底，內緣為黑色有白色斑紋。蠶蛾屬Bombyx是蠶蛾科的模式屬，眾所皆知的家蠶或蠶寶寶(B. mori)乃此屬的模式種，在台灣一共紀錄四種。台灣產族群的亞種地位為Matsumura(1927)所確認。
A Brief Introduction
Bombyx mandarina formosana is regarded as an endemic subspecies in Taiwan and shares similar wing pattern with B. horsfieldi and B. mori. However, the apex of B. mandarina formosana's forewing is more elongated than B. horsfieldi and the dark marking of B. mandarina formosana's forewing is present while B. mori is not. B. mandarina was thought to be the wild type of B. mori in the previous studies.
